SunWest Foundation

SunWest Foundation Mission

It is the desire of the Board of Directors and employees of SunWest Credit Union to obtain resources to improve the educational experience for school children. We feel that every child deserves the basic material necessities in school so that their energies can be focused on developing their academic and social skills to their fullest potential.

The SunWest Foundation, a 501c3 organization, was founded by the credit union and its employees. For over 25 years, the SunWest Foundation has been committed to improving the lives of students in our community and has been recognized with awards for our impact. Since its inception, the Foundation has donated more than $150,000 to local students in need.

The Foundation believes that continuing education is also important. To help students achieve their educational and career goals, the Foundation provides scholarships toward tuition at Pueblo Community College and Colorado State University Pueblo.

The students at Liberty Point International created a hygiene room, where any student could go to get winter clothing items, extra food, extra clothes, or extra school supplies.

Sunset Park identified that many families throughout the year need assistance with school clothes, rent, utilities, and school supplies. Their grant request helps eliminate some of the financial barriers that arise for families so they can get the help they need. The students help supply the clothing and supplies closet so anyone can grab what they need.

South Mesa Elementary School believes every child deserves to start the school year feeling confident, prepared, and ready to learn. Unfortunately, some students face challenges in having the clothes and school supplies they need. South Mesa requested a grant to help them purchase new clothes and essential supplies for their students.

Craver Middle School requested a grant to help students and teachers in need obtain necessary school supplies.

Canon City Middle School gathered materials to start a food pantry at their school. It was created so that students could get anything that might support them outside of school in whatever situation they might be going through.

SunWest’s staff is passionate about the Foundation’s mission and helps organize the annual golf tournament, which is the primary fundraiser for the SunWest Foundation. All proceeds from this event will directly and fully benefit students in Pueblo and Fremont counties.
